From the Cockpit:
WOW! That was a FAST summer! Welcome back, everyone. Chief and I are looking forward to an outstanding year for our NJROTC Cadets. Although your Clements Cadets were unable to participate in many events during the last year, the Cadets were still able to compete in NJROTC Academic events and participate in Drill Team and Physical Fitness Training sessions after school hours. In addition, the Cadets continued to provide valuable support for numerous Community Service events throughout the local area and also within the school. Three of our Senior Cadets from last year are currently enroute to the college of their choice with Full NROTC Scholarships. We hope to have more of these for our Senior Class this year!
During the past summer, there were two different Leadership Camps and both were conducted at Texas A&M-Kingsville. The dates for the Leadership Academy (LA), were 7 June 2021 – 11 June 2021. The Leadership Academy was primarily designed for returning Cadets who now serve the Unit in Leadership roles such as those billets filled by Cadet Officers and Senior Staff members. I can proudly report to you that all of our Cadets successfully completed and graduated from the Leadership Academy, and this included all of them taking and passing the Navy Physical Fitness Test! In addition, Cadet Commanding Officer, Ireland Blouin and Cadet Executive Officer, Jill Gilmore, both volunteered and served as Assistant Instructors during the Basic Leadership Training Camp which occurred from 15 June 2021 – 18 June 2021. Bravo Zulu to both Ireland and Jill! I believe that their hard work will benefit both of them as individuals, and the entire Unit as a whole. We also had Cadets who attended the Basic Leadership Training Camp (BLT), which is primarily designed for returning Cadets who will be placed in lower ranking leadership roles than that of the Unit’s Officer and Senior Staff billets. I can proudly report that all of our Cadets successfully completed the Basic Leadership Training Course, with Cadet Kean Liu being selected as the Most Improved Cadet in his platoon. Chief attended both of these Camps and I attended BLT. I can state with a high level of confidence, that all of the Cadets who attended these Camps, have experienced a massive level of growth over a relatively short amount of time. Chief and I are very proud of all of them. This is why we highly recommend that our Cadets attend these Camps during the summer, and we highly encourage our parents to allow their children to do so.
Although we have all recently heard of increasing infection cases of COVID, we are hopeful that these cases will be contained and dealt with through the efforts of individual citizens, and through the efforts of our brothers and sisters in the Medical profession. As I am sure you are all aware, students are currently no longer required to wear masks at Clements High School. However, students are allowed to wear masks if they choose to do so.
Chief Gorsuch and I are very excited and we have already planned the annual Schedule of of Events (SOE), for the coming school year. We plan on a return to “normal operations” which will include participation in events such as Drill Meets, Field Trips, and all other aspects of the NJROTC Program. I will once again close with my thanks to all of you for allowing us the privilege and opportunity to teach and mentor your children in the extremely important aspects of Leadership and Citizenship. Please feel free to contact myself or Chief Gorsuch if you have any concerns regarding your Cadet or the NJROTC Program. Have a great Navy and Marine Corps day!
